When we presented 'North to South' at the Auckland Folk Festival earlier this year it seen by the talent scouts from the Wellington Folk Festival, who have asked us to perform it at the Wellington Folk Festival on Labour Weekend.
So by way of a Dress Rehearsal for Wellington we are presenting it at the Club on September 3rd.
Follow our group of intrepid adventurers as they make their way from the old country to lands unknown, entrusting their lives to the crews of the old sailing ships.
Find out how news was spread whilst at sea, learn with the new hands what it takes to become an old sea salt, meet some whalers in the Southern Ocean and hear how a sailor’s life in the early days compares to the fast technical racing ships of today.

Clare is no stranger to the folk scene, having grown up with a tradition of folk singing and has performed both solo and with such groups as Florabunda and the Blacksmith band. Nick, on the other hand, has learnt his trade in the once smokey trad. sessions of Auckland's Irish pubs - first on whistle, then on bodhran and mandolin, before venturing into songwriting.
Having met at the Auckland folk festival a few years ago, this couple has gone from strength to strength. Having got married and produced two children, they have now developed into a singing/songwriting team, performing a mixture of traditional and self-penned works.
Come and hear the results.
An informal ‘Singaround’ - ‘Open Mic’ without a Mic - A smaller group of people meet to share their songs and music.
This year our celebratory repast is to be held downstairs in The Toolroom under The Hardware Cafe in Titirangi Village.
We have the full Hardware cafe menu available to us, so you can pick just what you want from their wide range of cafe / bistro style meals, from soups and sandwiches / burgers through to market fish and seasonal produce; and mid price range licensed beer and wine.
But...We need to know numbers - so you need to prebook with Shiree on 817 7676 or via our contact form - BEFORE September 18th.
Once you've done that - all you've got to do is come along and enjoy yourself, bring along your voices and/or instruments and perform a song/tune or two for your fellow club members.
Menu is ‘a la carte’ so everyone will pay separately at the end of the meal.
